Info : History

"Pink City", "The Heritage City", "City of the Maharajas" are few synonyms of the one and only Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan. In 1863 A.D., to welcome Prince Albert, consort of Queen Victoria, the city was beauty washed and bashed in pink. Since then, the letter "Pink" has been associated to its name and everybody knows it as, Jaipur "The Pink City".

Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, sovereign of Amber to make his new capital city, founded the historical City in 1727 A.D.. It was the first planned city of its time, beautifully planned and developed by a young Bengali architect Vidhyadhar Bhattacharya, who laid the plans according to the Hindu Treatise, The Shilp Shastra commanly known as Vastu Shastra.

Tourists are attracted to numerous places to explore, Sculpture & architecture, Forts & Palaces, Gardens, Handicrafts and of course Lightweight Quilts.The city equiped with colorful bazaars where one can shop for Rajasthani handlooms and trinkets. Beautifully laid out gardens and parks, attractive monuments and marvelous heritage hotels, once the residence of Maharaja’s are worth admiration. Not to mention the ambling camels and cheerful people in multi-hued costumes that make your trip to the pink city a memorable one.
